Illinois Publication on Biotech Policy

Institute of Government & Public Affairs (IGPA)

The Institute of Government and Public Affairs serves society by helping to improve public policies and the performance of government. It does this by disseminating research on public policy issues and the public decision-making process, and by facilitating the application of that research to the issues and problems confronting decision makers and others who address public issues.

University of Illinois Journal of Law, Technology & Policy

This is a peer-reviewed, bi-annual publication that covers issues such as the societal impact of technology, legal regulation of technology and ethics and technology. The Journal of Law, Technology & Policy is a joint publication of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign College of Law, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications and the Institute of Government and Public Affairs.

Illinois Technology Office--VentureTECH

Governor George Ryan has developed VentureTECH as a way to compete with other states in attracting new technologies and entrepreneurs to the state of Illinois. VentureTECH is "a five-year, $2 billion comprehensive strategy for investing state resources in education and advanced research and development, health sciences and biotechnology, and cutting-edge information technology programs".

EPA-Links to Other Biotechnology Information Sources

The EPA has put together a list of links to EPA sites as well as other U.S. Federal Agencies that address biotechnology issues. Governmental biotechnology sites outside the U.S. are also provided.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

The CDC is an agency of the Department of Health & Human Services. Access to CDC reports, information on bioethics and human subject research conferences and information about biotechnology research in developing countries is available at this site.

Biotechnology Industry Organization -- BIO Legislative and Media Action Center

The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) has a Legislative and Media Action Center that has links to Action Items, Congress Today, and Issues and Legislation.

Laboratory for Fluorescence Dynamics

The Laboratory for Fluorescence Dynamics (LFD) at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign was established in 1986 by Enrico Gratton. The LFD is a national research resource in biomedical fluorescence spectroscopy, supported by the National Center for Research Resources division of the National Institutes of Health, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

BioAsTec - Online Independent Analysis of the Latest Biotechnology Products

BioAsTec is a new, independent division of the Biotech Medical Management Association. Physicians, pharmacists, and Ph.D.s serve as BioAsTec professionals who analyze and consolidate clinical and pharmacoeconomic data.

BIOCOM-San Diego

Even though this is the Internet hub for online biotech information for San Diego, the Public Policy section of this site has information on biotech issues that are being addressed in the Congressional Delegation, state legislature and federal agencies.

BioHope.org

BioHope is the source for news about regulations in the biotech industry. Read articles that are coming out of "hot states", like Illinois, locate current and past session legislation plus analysis, and explore a collection of state resources at this site.

The Code of Federal Regulations

Code of Federal Regulations is a collection of the general and permanent rules published in the Federal Register by the Executive departments and agencies of the Federal government. This site contains the "Common rule" regulations for U.S. human subjects research.

Federal Register Online

This site often contains announcements and calls for commentary related to health policy and human subject research.

Political issues and considerations in biotechnology - regulation law lawmakers Supreme Court legal rights biotech policy

Yali Friedman, a biochemistry Ph.D., has gathered information and numerous links addressing political issues in the area of biotechnology.

Thomas-Legislative Information on the Internet

Thomas is the site to go to for legislation updates. It allows you to track information on issues pending in Congress, such as H.R. 3377, "Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act".
